Ghiyas-ud-din Balban was a Turkish ruler who dominated the Delhi Sultanate and controlled surrounding regions through the Slave Dynasty during 1246 – 1266. He was remembered as a very strict and aggressive ruler who also strongly believed in justice. However, due to the lack of an efficient successor the era saw its demise, giving way to the Khilji Dynasty.

The tomb is in partial ruins, giving it a unique appearance. It is surrounded by medieval styled houses and buildings that remain in ruins.
